Assessing liabilities and assets supports strategy development in the areas of brand and marketing development.

  • Your own weakness + competitor strengths = your potential liabilities.

  • Your own strengths + competitor weakness = potential assets.

3 simple steps!

Here are my 3 simple steps to conducting a thorough S.W.O.T analysis for business and brand growth and development.

Step 1 | Assess your own brand

Record your own unique brand's Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats.

  • Consider what you do better than anyone else, what your customers see as your strengths and list your advantages.

  • Outline what you think you can improve on or areas to avoid.

  • Identify what opportunities you see as well as the technological application that could improve your position.

  • List obstacles and weaknesses that threaten your brand.

Step 2 | Assess your top competitors

Record your top competition's Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats.

  • Consider what your competition does better than anyone else, what yours and their customers see as their strengths and list their advantages.

  • Outline what you think your customers weaknesses are.

  • Identify what opportunities you see as exploitation of your competitors weaknesses.

  • List obstacles and weaknesses that threaten your competitors brand, these become your opportunities.

Step 3 | Create actionable items

The purpose of identifying the areas of asset and liability, is to give yourself the opportunity to create a strategic action plan to exploit assets and combat liabilities.

  • Your own weakness + competitor strengths = your potential liabilities.

  • Your own strengths + competitor weakness = potential assets.

Use the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats you identified in the S.W.O.T Analysis tables and process above, to complete a table of actionable items. These action items become the basis of your future brand and marketing strategy development.
